CBP Official Statement on Tariffs and FAQ’s

  • Effective Date: March 11, 2025
  • Affected Regions: North America
  • Advisory Type: Tariff

Dear Valued Customer,

On March 8, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued an Official CBP Statement On Tariffs. Additional tariffs of 25 percent were effective on Canada and Mexico under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) as of March 4, 2025.

In this notice they confirmed “no additional tariffs are due on goods from Canada and Mexico that qualify for USMCA preference” as of March 7, 2025. Additionally, CBP advised the same rules apply for qualification of products to meet the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) under 19 CFR 182.  CBP confirmed the 25 percent tariffs from March 4 to March 6 are not retroactive for USMCA articles during this timeframe.

CBP recently updated their IEEPA China and Hong Frequently Asked Questions page which you can view here.
