The roar of engines filled the air at the Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport on March 7-9 in Australia, thanks in part to C.H. Robinson’s logistical expertise. The company played a crucial role in transporting a collection of historic racing cars to the event, allowing motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy these iconic vehicles in action on the track.
The Phillip Island Classic is a celebrated event in the Southern Hemisphere, showcasing a range of high-performance vehicles. This year’s event featured a 1985 Ferrari 156/85 Formula 1 car and the Lola T332, one of Australia’s fastest F5000 racers. Transporting these rare, high performance race cars requires specialist knowledge, something C.H. Robinson knows well working with 85 of the top 100 automotive suppliers and top 10 OEMs.
“These cars are not only highly valuable but also hold immense historical significance. Moving them across continents in race-ready condition while adhering to strict customs and quarantine regulations is a complex challenge that requires careful planning, coordination, and a deep understanding of international freight logistics,” explains Paul Morcom, Head of Automotive for C.H. Robinson Oceania.
To ensure the prominent vehicles arrived safely and on time, C.H. Robinson worked closely with event organisers and provided tailored solutions with end-to-end support from planning to execution and item-level visibility. This ensured that every part of the shipment was tracked and monitored, reducing the risk of delays and ensuring timely delivery.
“With thousands of fans waiting to see these cars race, there isn’t room for error. No one wants to find out their favourite car is delayed due to inclement weather or stuck in Customs,” said Morcom. “Global shipping is complex, but our teams at C.H. Robinson know this well. And that’s why we’re trusted to deliver for the automotive industry, from large events like the Phillip Island Classic to delivering thousands of small parts for a manufacturing line.”
